“Most of what I do is help people work out which of their worries is the one worth acting on. That is a clinical skill, and it takes longer than eight minutes.”

Amara founded Wrenfield in 2009 after nine years in NHS general practice, with a specific complaint she has never really stopped making: that the ten-minute appointment is an administrative convenience that has been mistaken for a clinical standard.
She leads the practice’s long-term conditions work and sets the clinical protocols the other clinicians work to. She still holds a full list of her own patients, some of whom have been with her since the sail-maker’s workshop.
Outside the practice she chairs a regional training programme for GP registrars, and is unreasonably competitive about the practice quiz.
